Scott Wellman graduated magna cum laude
with a B.A. in mathematics from the University
of California at Los Angeles in 1975. He
earned a Master's Degree in Economics and
a J.D. from the University of Southern California
in 1978. He has also studied at the International
Trade Law Program at Cambridge University
in England, and at the Institute of Legal
Sciences in Warsaw, Poland.
Mr. Wellman specializes in complex business
transactions and litigation. His areas of
expertise include national and international
commercial and human rights litigation,
securities and trade regulation, the formation
of corporations and partnerships, land-use
applications and development, labor law,
and unfair business practices.
His many litigation victories include Siderman
v. Argentina, the first human rights case
against a foreign sovereign brought to [the
commencement of] trial, Gammoh v. City of
Anaheim, resulting in a settlement of $2,000,000
for violations of civil rights arising from
the denial of a land-use permit, and many
successful defenses in multimillion-dollar
lawsuits brought by private litigants and
in regulatory proceedings by the Securities
& Exchange Commission and Federal Trade
Commission.
Mr. Wellman is an Adjunct Professor of
Law at Whittier Law School, where he teaches
courses in International Business Litigation
and International Business Transactions.
He has appeared on Wall Street Week and
has spoken at professional seminars, and
was an expert witness on American real estate
at a trial in Oslo, Norway. |
