Appeals and Writs
Siderman v. Republic of Argentina: International civil rights action that went twice to the United States Supreme Court before it was successfully settled. This was the first civil rights case against a foreign sovereign ever to reach the eve of trial.
In re Lara: Successful prosecution of a real estate broker for making a spurious claim. The decision was affirmed on appeal and resulted in a legislative change which became known as the "Lara Law."
Harper v. Ultimo: Successful defeat of mandatory arbitration clause in construction defect case; affirmed on appeal; settled for $122,500 damages for our client.
Land Use
Gammoh v. City of Anaheim: Civil rights action for lost profits due to denial of a land-use permit, resulting in a payment of $2,000,000 to the client.
JGD v. City of Anaheim: Challenge to denial of land-use approval for commercial office building, resulting in granting of approval and $200,000 damages.
Belisle v. City of Garden Grove: Eminent domain case resulting in payment to our client four times greater than the city's original offer.
